When AtkinsRéalis appointed Yoonie Kim to lead the company’s foreign direct investment (FDI) initiative, they welcomed not only a veteran economic developer but also a vital link to markets across Asia and beyond. Kim, as Director of Business Development and Strategy, uses her extensive knowledge and network in South Korea, Japan, and China, cultivated over 18 years at the Georgia Department of Economic Development, to bring international investment to projects based in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
AtkinsRéalis boasts a global team of approximately 40,000 professionals committed to facilitating sustainable progress. The team focuses on advancing infrastructure, clean energy solutions, and building resilient systems with a commitment to environmental health and technological innovation. “Right now, we have a lot of interest in electric vehicle (EV) projects,” said Kim. “EV manufacturers and suppliers need environmental analysis, special permitting and expertise in handling chemicals. Our company can support all of the environmental needs and the entire project.”
Before joining AtkinsRéalis, Kim significantly impacted Georgia during her time at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. She helped bring in 130 FDI projects, amounting to $11.7 billion in investments and more than 22,600 new jobs. Kim was instrumental in attracting Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant, Georgia’s largest economic development project, which opened officially in March 2025. Her contributions earned commendations from Governor Brian Kemp, who acknowledged her influence in a State of the State address. She believes in Georgia as a business hub owing to its infrastructure, logistics, port facilities, and direct flight connections from Atlanta.
Kim also emphasizes the importance of local connections and is an active member of the Gwinnett Chamber, understanding the benefits it offers business leaders. She explained, “Business investors always want to know about the state government and any incentives that are available, but I also encourage them to get involved on a local level.” Kim highlighted the pivotal role of the Gwinnett Chamber in establishing connections with local governments. She encouraged Gwinnett Chamber members to view her as a resource for companies considering relocation to the United States, stating, “Our company can support the whole process of the location side, streamlining global expansion for companies.”
Originally from South Korea, Kim appreciates life in Gwinnett County, noting its global character and its role as home to about 600 internationally-based companies and a significant Korean-American community. “Gwinnett moves at an international pace,” she observed. Kim is dedicated to improving life for everyone, including minority communities in Gwinnett.
