Governor Brian Kemp has signed comprehensive tort reform into law following the 2024 legislative session. Senate Bills 68 and 69, which passed in the Georgia General Assembly with bipartisan support, are designed to enhance the state’s business environment.
Nick Masino, President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber, expressed support for the new legislation. “The Gwinnett Chamber applauds the signing of SB 68 and SB 69 and commends Governor Kemp for his leadership in securing meaningful reform for business,” Masino stated. “We were proud to stand alongside businesses, associations, and chambers of commerce across the state with a unified voice advocating for a fair, balanced, and predictable legal climate.”
The bills, sponsored by President Pro Tempore John Kennedy, aim to create balance in the courtroom and improve transparency in third-party litigation funding. These changes are intended to maintain Georgia’s reputation as a business-friendly state.
Paul Oh, Vice President of Public Policy and External Affairs, highlighted the significance of the reform. “The signing of these tort reform bills marks a significant achievement in ensuring Georgia remains a premier destination for business investment and economic growth,” Oh said. He acknowledged the efforts of Governor Kemp and various lawmakers, including Lt. Governor Burt Jones, Speaker Jon Burns, and several others.
