The House Blue Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates will hold its second hearing in Savannah on September 19, 2025. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus.

Chairman Representative Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) announced that the committee is examining how insurance rates are set, industry profit margins, claims processing, and regulatory compliance. The goal is to determine if Georgia residents and businesses are facing unjustified increases in insurance costs.

The upcoming hearing will focus on homeowners and property insurance, with particular attention to how storms affect claims and rates. “We are looking for ways to make insurance more affordable for hardworking Georgians,” said Chairman Reeves.

Reeves will be available to speak with the media via Zoom on September 18 at 10:30 a.m., as well as in person before the meeting on September 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Additional hearings are planned for October 17 in Columbus, November 21 in Macon, and December 18 in Gwinnett County.

Burns, a Republican who was elected to the Georgia State House in 2005 representing the state’s 159th House District, has been involved in legislative activities related to this issue.
