In the 2024-25 school year, Mountain View High School had 65 multiracial students enrolled, a decrease of 27.8% compared to the prior year, reports the Georgia Department of Education.
The school’s total enrollment reached 2,186 students for 2024-25, with multiracial students accounting for 3% of the population and representing the smallest demographic group at the school.
Mountain View High School is part of the Gwinnett County School District, which has its central office in Lawrenceville.
Brookwood High School, among the 140 schools in the Gwinnett County School District, recorded the largest number of multiracial students in 2024-25, enrolling 187 students.
The National Center for Education Statistics reported that Georgia’s public school student body was about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Chronic absenteeism has continued to challenge Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of instructional days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE introduced a statewide strategy featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public outreach campaign, and targeted assistance for districts with the greatest need.
Georgia legislators in 2025 approved a new law updating school attendance policy so that students cannot be expelled solely for excessive absences. The legislation also introduces added reporting standards and supports alternative diploma options for students.
By 2026, the state reported a student-to-teacher ratio of roughly 14:1, which is better than the national average of 15:1.
