Mandi Bell joins Brenau as new swim coach
In June, the Brenau University swim team welcomed Mandi Bell as the new head coach. With 41 years of experience in swimming, including 34 as a coach, Bell plans to take Brenau’s team to the next level.

The Baird/STR Hotel Stock Index fell 19.3% in June to a level of 4,504. Year to date through the first six months of 2022, the stock index decreased 21.6%.

Walker County Animal Shelter to Provide Toys to Children in Need & Good Homes for Shelter Pets - Walker County, GA - Official Government Site
The Walker County Animal Shelter plans to combat the dog days of summer by celebrating Christmas in July next weekend. The shelter will host a special adopt-a-thon event July 22-24 in an effort to find good homes for as many pets as possible.

Marx Named Piedmont Athens Regional’s Chief Medical Officer
Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center has announced Geoffrey Marx, M.D., MS, FHM, as the hospital’s new Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Marx has been practicing hospital medicine for more than 20 years, primarily at Piedmont Athens Regional. During that time, he has focused on making changes that would both improve quality and make patient and provider experience better.

Myers Takes First Place In Best In Show At SGTC Car Show
Americus, GA – Larry Meyers took first place in the Best in Show Car category as well as first place in the Best Paint Job category with his 1961 Chevy Impala Bubbletop at the South Georgia Technical College’s Father’s Day Car Show recently. Fifty-three entries were on display in front of the SGTC cafeteria near South Georgia Tech Parkway. Admission was free and lunch was provided to participants and on-lookers.

The University of West Georgia’s Dr. Kevin Hibbard has performed at the legendary Carnegie Hall on multiple occasions, but June 30 was the first time the professor emeritus of music has conducted on that historic stage – and he did so by leading a chorus that included 16 UWG alumni.
