A group of parents have filed a lawsuit trying to end the Gwinnett County School District’s current mask mandate.
The mandate requires nearly 200,000 students and staff in the district to wear masks anytime they are in school buildings or on buses, WSB-TV News reported.
The parents say that the mandate is causing their children to suffer physically and that it is also affecting their education.
"I decided to come to this decision because number one: I do not co-parent with the CDC and I certainly do not co-parent with this administration. Our school has zero authority to impose health mandates over our students," Holly Terei, a Gwinnett County parent, said in an interview with FOX News.
The lawsuit also includes a demand for a preliminary injunction against the mask mandate until the case is decided.
Some Gwinnett County parents have told the school board that they support the mask mandate, including one parent who recently contracted the disease.
“I know I’m incredibly fortunate to be alive. I hope we will keep it in place until children can be vaccinated,” Lindsey Acciarito told WSB-TV News.
Lawyers for school district have filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
