The Braves recently replaced outfielder Jorge Soler on the National League Division Series (NLDS) roster with Cristian Pache after Soler tested positive for COVID-19, according to MLB.
Soler tested positive before the start of Game 4 in Atlanta and is expected to miss the remainder of NLDS against Milwaukee.
MLB approved the substitution and Pache will remain on the NLDS roster until Soler can be allowed to return from the COVID-19 related injuries list.
"We kind of found out that he had to get more tests around [batting practice],” Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman said, according to MLB. "When we came back in [from batting practice], the next thing you know he's gone."
The Braves will be hard pressed to replace Soler's production. Soler has hit 14 homers with an .882 OPS in the 55 games he played after being acquired from the Royals on July 30 and is a capable right fielder.
Soler was the leadoff hitter for Braves over last two weeks of the regular season and has been replaced in the batting order by shortstop Dansby Swanson
The NL Championship Series began Oct. 16, with the Braves facing off against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
