Gwinnett County commissioners and the Gwinnett Place Community will spend $275,000 to determine the future of the long-vacant Gwinnett Place Mall.
The 562,000-square-foot property and the surrounding area was purchased by the county for $23 million as leaders attempt to determine what should be done with it, according to a report by CBS46.
“Over the years I have heard everything, from keeping it and making it like it used to be (which I don’t think would be the case) to again tearing it down and really developing something cool and amazing,’’ Gwinnett County Community Improvement District leader Joe Allen told CBS46.
The study will include public outreach allowing residents the opportunity to give their opinions, CBS46 said.
According to the article, county leaders have already begun scheduling meetings with property owners and civic organizations to discuss the options.
It is estimated that the study will take nine to 10 months.
