Travis Hunter is teaming with Deion Sanders in a signing that could change the landscape of college football across the board.

The country’s top college football recruit, Hunter, who starred at Suwanee Collins Hill High, recently announced he plans to play for former Atlanta two-sport star Sanders, also known as “Coach Prime,” at Jackson State University in Mississippi.

In committing to the Tigers, Hunter made the decision to walk away from his pledge to Florida State University, where Sanders starred at during his collegiate career as a two-time All-American.

"I am making this decision so that I can light the way for others to follow, make it a little easier for other players to realize HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) may be everything you want and more: an exciting college experience, a vital community and a life-changing place to play football," Hunter said in a tweet.

A two-way player at defensive back and wide receiver, Hunter is rated as the No. 1 national recruit by 247Sports.

Hunter said he was inspired to attend Jackson State by many of the former football legends that call HBCUs their alma mater. Soon after he made his decision public, Sanders posted a video of the announcement on Twitter.

Hunter led the Eagles to the 2021 Class 7A football state championship. He caught 46 touchdowns over his career at Collins Hill and netted 3,807 total yards on offense to go along with 19 interceptions. 247Sports gave Hunter a five-star rating with the highest-possible composite rating of 0.9999.

Earlier Jackson State turned heads with its hiring of Sanders in September 2020. This season Jackson State went 11-2 and was 8-0 against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents.

The Tigers lost the Celebration Bowl on Saturday 31-10 to South Carolina State.
