Just days before Christmas, an Uber driver from Norcross was allegedly carjacked in Peachtree Corners by two women who brandished a gun.
According to a report by Fox5, Veronica Bland got a call that she had doubts about from two passengers who needed to be picked up with no address. The woman in the backseat got out of the vehicle and allegedly pointed a gun at her, she said.
“She said, ‘This is a robbery,’" Bland told Fox5. "All I could see was my life flash before me."
Bland, 50, is a grandmother who told the carjackers not to kill her and that she had kids.
The women stole the vehicle, but thankfully for Bland, her keys were in her pocket, and the perpetrators didn’t make it far. Police recovered Bland’s car, but her phone was also taken and has yet to be found.
While Bland said she has never had a problem of this sort in her five years of driving for Uber, she does not see herself continuing the job. Bland had been working for Uber to make money for the holidays to treat her family, she told Fox5.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating the situation and anyone with information is asked to contact the station at 770-513-5700.
