It will be a royal sports marriage. Atlanta Braves' all-star shortstop Dansby Swanson, a Georgia native, is engaged to marry soccer star Mallory Pugh.
"The couple met through Swanson's former teammate Jace Peterson, now with the Milwaukee Brewers, who is married to Pugh's sister," ESPN reported.
Pugh, a member of the U.S. national team since 2016, plays with the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women's Soccer League, ESPN reported. She contributed to winning the 2019 World Cup by scoring a point against Thailand, and she participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Swanson joined the Braves in 2016 and this past season had a .248 batting average with 27 home runs and 88 RBIs, ESPN reported. The Braves went on to win the World Series.
The pair join the ranks of sports couples with connections to the U.S. soccer team, ESPN reported. Megan Rapinoe's partner is the WNBA's Sue Bird, and Julie Ertz is married to Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz.
