The defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves will return this season with three of their best starting pitchers, Charlie Morton, Max Fried and Ian Anderson, Talking Chop reported.
Those three started in 11 of the 15 postseason games, helping to earn the Braves their first World Series title since 1995, the story said. They would have started 12 out of 15 if not for Morton's broken leg in Game 1 of the Series, Talking Chop said. Morton was signed to a one-year $20 million contract for 2022. Anderson, 23, has a 3.23 ERA over 30 major league starts, the story noted.
“You feel good about the Braves’ chance to win whenever Morton, Fried or Anderson are on the mound that evening," Talking Chop's Scott Coleman wrote.
Less certain are the starters in the fourth and fifth spots in the rotation, Coleman said.
The team could bring in a free agent or trade for a pitcher, the story said. Internal candidates include Huascar Ynoa, Kyle Wright, Kyle Muller, Tucker Davidson, and Touki Touissant, Coleman wrote.
Then there is the farm system, with possibilities such as Jared Shuster, Spencer Strider and Bryce Elder. But those players have not had much success in the big leagues, Coleman noted.
