Gov. Brian Kemp recently chastised David Perdue, a fellow gubernatorial contender, for running a campaign commercial that features a suspected possessor and distributor of child pornography, according to a Fox News report.
Grady Sanford, a Forsyth County Sheriff who was arrested for child pornography in 2020, is shown shaking hands with Perdue in the ad.
"David Perdue should immediately take down this TV ad that highlights him shaking hands with a child predator and apologize to the victims of Grady Sanford's atrocious criminal behavior," Cody Hall, Director of Communications and Senior Advisor for the Kemp campaign stated, "Georgians deserve better in their Governor."
A Perdue spokesperson, however, stated that the film was added by mistake and that the video has been removed.
The video features footage taken during Sen. Perdue's August 2019 visit to Mashburn Elementary School in Cumming.
Sanford's online activities were investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in November 2020, after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's (NCMEC) discovery of images of child sexual abuse on the internet.
He was arrested and charged with two counts of child pornography distribution on Nov 10, 2020, after detectives tracked an email sent to his Canton address.
The Cherokee County Clerk of Court reports that Sanford's case is still pending and that no court date has been set.
