Duluth Deputy chief, Col. Jacquelyn Carruth | City of Duluth
The City of Duluth will swear in its first female chief of police in July.
Duluth Deputy Chief Col. Jacquelyn Carruth is set to become the city's first female police chief in the department's century-long history when she replaces retiring Chief Randy Belcher in July, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
"Col. Carruth plans to continue building on the solid foundation that Chief Belcher has already set in place," the Duluth Police Department said in a statement, according to FOX 5. "Her focus will be on maintaining high standards of policing, continuing and expanding the department’s crime-fighting capabilities through the use of technology, and continuing to find ways to build positive relationships with all members of our community."
A 25-year police veteran, Carruth is set to join approximately 3% of Georgia police chiefs who are female.
Carruth is a graduate of the FBI Academy and has worked in virtually every area of the department since she joined it in 1996.
Carruth was a member of the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange Program.
Retiring Chief Belcher has served more than 46 years with the Duluth Police Department, 38 years of which he held the position of chief of police.
