Metro Atlanta area residents were left to pick up the pieces after being ravaged by heavy rain and thunderstorms that recently left trees and power lines downed across the area.
In a Fox5Atlanta report on Thursday, June 9, a tree fell on a car in southeast Atlanta as a result of the overnight storm that knocked out power, while in East Point, Chanel Dixon saw a downed tree land on her apartment.
"The apartment actually shook more than normal,” Dixon said. The scary episode occurred while she was in bed watching the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics.
“I just screamed for my daughter and that was it," she said. Realizing the extent of the damage didn't come until she looked at her daughter’s room.
"At first I saw the hole in the bathroom and in her room there was a crack like something pushed the window in," she said.
At one point, Georgia Power reported upwards of 3,000 customers were affected by outages around the state, adding that crews were working around the clock to try and restore power to everyone.
East Point officials said they had to clean up massive trees and debris and that crews were working as quickly as possible to restore things to normal.
In Atlanta, at least five people were known to be hospitalized after a tree smashed through their kitchen.
