Gwinnett police have charged a local man after he was spotted armed with a rifle outside a high school football game.

In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, District spokesperson Bernard Watson said a school resource officer spotted the armed man, adding that they did a great job of identifying and neutralizing a potential threat.

"They told the person to stop, drop the weapon and that person obeyed those commands," Watson told FOX 5 Atlanta.

Brian Garfield Fort faces possessing a weapon on school property charges after officers say they found two weapons on him during a subsequent search in the school parking lot, the report states.

According to the report, the incident involving Garfield Fort comes just weeks after the Archer High principal sent a letter home to parents after a student brought a gun to the school.

The criminal investigation is ongoing, and school officials say they do not know why Fort was on school grounds or if he has any affiliation with the school, FOX 5 reports.
