October 13: The State of Oncology Now (webinar)

This free virtual workshop will take place on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 2 p.m., and is presented by  Cancer Support Community Atlanta and Georgia CORE. Hear from Northside Hospital Cancer Institute's Dr. Guilherme Cantuaria about the current state of oncology. Dr. Cantuaria will discuss precision medicine and what the next generation sequencing could mean for cancer treatment, and will share updates on President Biden's Cancer Moonshot Initiative and care beyond surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Georgia Cancer Specialists' Dr. Cheryl Jones will moderate the Q&A portion of this program.

October 15: Paint Gwinnett Pink 5K Walk/Run for Breast Cancer

Registration is now open for the 2022 Northside Hospital Paint Gwinnett Pink 5K Walk/Run for Breast Cancer. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 a.m. at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. 

Now in its seventh year, Paint Gwinnett Pink is held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and supports breast cancer programs at Northside Hospital Gwinnett and Northside Hospital Duluth. Money raised provides improved access to:

  • Cutting-edge imaging technology for earlier diagnosis.
  • Mammograms.
  • Transportation and other assistance needed for cancer treatments.
Registration is $30 and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt. A finisher’s medal will be given to all participants who finish the course. In addition, awards will go to the overall female and male finishers, as well as the top three female and male winners in all age groups (10 and under to 70 and over in five-year increments). 

Participants will enjoy socially distanced festivities on race day. Should the in-person 5K need to be canceled, all 5K registrations will transition to a virtual run, and registrants will pick up their race packet and information at packet pick-up.

October 16: Atlanta Walk to Remember

The 18th annual Atlanta Walk to Remember, presented by Northside Hospital, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Northside/Alpharetta Medical Campus, 3400 Old Milton Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30005. The free event is held in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

“The Atlanta Walk to Remember is a wonderful opportunity for parents to commemorate their loss with the support of family and friends,” said Melissa Petersen, clinician at Northside Hospital H.E.A.R.T.strings Perinatal Bereavement Office. “It’s a great day for us to remember and celebrate our babies. This year, our theme is focused on the community of perinatal loss families and how they come together to support each other.”

Families are encouraged to come early, between noon and 1:30 p.m., and either bring a picnic or purchase lunch from one of the food trucks. The official program begins at 2 p.m.

October 20: Northside Hospital skin cancer screening Sandy Springs

Early detection is the best protection against cancer.

Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is offering a community skin cancer screening, at no cost. It will take place Thursday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Northside hospital Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology - Atlanta, 1000 Johnson Ferry Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30342.

All participants will be required to answer COVID-19 screening questions, wear a facemask/cloth face covering at all times and perform frequent hand hygiene.

 

Medical professionals will provide a brief skin assessment in a private setting. You must be 18 or older to participate. Qualified interpreters will be available free of charge, with advanced requests. Pre-registration is required. Wellness Wednesdays (webinars)

Join Northside Hospital experts for a weekly "virtual" presentation of timely health information.

Presentations take place over Zoom. There is no cost to participate. All presentations begin at Noon and last approximately one hour.

Limited spots still available!  Benefiting Northside Hospital Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Program. Help provide 2,000+ screening mammograms for underinsured women in the community.

Events include tennis drills with top Atlanta tennis pros and pickleball round-robins for ladies and men, luncheon, fashion show, raffles, and more.
