Senior Night Victory Marks 300-Win Milestone for Head Coach Mark Duble

Last night's defeat over Agnes Scott marked an incredible milestone for 29th-year head coach, Mark Duble. The Lady Scots grabbed an important conference win over the Scotties that not only made for a great Senior Day match, but earned Mark Duble his 300th win overall, an impressive feat.

Coveant Athletic Director, John Hirte, adds– "Congrats to Coach Duble on his 300th win! We as a college community and an athletic department have been so blessed by Mark and the ways in which he has pursued and encouraged players to follow after Christ above all, and how he has used soccer as the means for impacting lives for almost 30 years. The sustained level of success over the past three decades can easily be attributed to Coach's work ethic, and the culture of excellence that he has created and nurtured within the women's soccer program. I'm grateful that we get to celebrate such a significant milestone with him!"   Emma Riggs was the player that put Covenant on the board against the Scotties with 27 minutes left in the first half. Riggs' resilience on the field showed when her first attempt was saved by Agnes Scott goalkeeper, Ashley Kopczyk, who had nine saves on the night. Kopczyk deflected the shot, but Riggs collected the rebound and took another attempt, this time finding the back of the net.

Though low scoring, Covenant's offense was not shy. Duble's squad put up 23 shots, 10 of which were on target. Much of the game was played attacking the Scotties offensively, as Agnes Scott did not see many scoring opportunities. When they did, Senior Lucy Sandhoff allowed no goals to score, earning her third shut-out this season.

The Scots now hold a .571 percentage in conference for the 2022 season, and though the Lady Scots have one more conference opponent to face, the program will finish above the .500 mark in CCS regular season play, making this the 28th consecutive season that Head Coach Mark Duble has held a winning record in conference, excluding the year of 2010 where there were no conference games. That year, the Lady Scots were 10-7-1 overall.

Coach Duble has built this program up from the beginning, watching Covenant Scots Women's Soccer transform into a successful and Christ-honoring program, consistently competing at a high level. Since the commencement of the program in 1994, Duble has coached every step of the way, taking the club team of 1993 to collegiate varsity athletes the very next year. Duble has earned several honors throughout the years and has had the opportunity to coach a number of great players. Last season, in 2021, the Lady Scots even made program history with their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning the USA South Title.

Rachel Lemay Duble, a four-year starter for the Lady Scots from 2015-2018, has had the privilege of not only being a player, but is now entering her fourth year as assistant coach for the Covenant women's soccer program. Lemay has had the honor of both playing under the guidance and coaching alongside Mark Duble. With that she says, "From the dawn of this program over 29 years ago, Coach Duble has maintained one vision for his program - provide young women the platform to play competitive soccer at the collegiate level and to do so through a Christ honoring perspective. His goal has always been to challenge his players to honor and glorify the Lord through the game of soccer and fall more in love with their Savior along the way. I know achieving 300 wins in his career is simply a bonus, but it truly is a testament to his passion of pouring into players academically, athletically, and spiritually. Congrats Coach! WOW 300! What a bonus!"

Current player, Lucy Sandhoff, has been a part of the program over the last four years. Sandhoff adds,"Congratulations Coach Duble! 300 wins is a remarkable accomplishment and it's something to be celebrated. But it isn't the wins nor the championships that define how you've led this team over the last 3 decades. You've consistently reminded us that our salvation isn't guaranteed by winning games, because we've already won the real battle with Jesus Christ as our Savior, leaving us with nothing to fear on the field. It's truly amazing to see the wins add up when we step outside of ourselves and play for each other, for you, and ultimately for God's glory. It's empowering to carry on the legacy of this team where growing closer to Christ and inspiring others to follow him is our sole focus. We can't thank you enough for the faithful, encouraging, and devoted coach you've been all these years. Congrats Coach, we love you!"

Congratulations once more to Head Coach Mark Duble and all he has done for not only the program, but for Covenant Athletics as a whole.
