The Gwinnett County Police Department recently marked the fourth anniversary of the death of Officer Antwan Toney by posting photos on social media and sharing memories of him.
Toney’s sister, Carla Johnson, said he was the life of the party, adding that anyone who met him would instantly fall in love with him after their first interaction, according to a Fox 5 Atlanta report.
"Antwan was one of the good guys and he wanted to join the police force to bridge that gap between law enforcement and the community," Johnson said.
Toney was 30 years old and six-days short of his third year on the force when he was shot and killed Oct. 20, 2018, while responding to a report of a suspicious car behind Shiloh Middle School in Gwinnett County, Georgia, according to Fox 5.
Toney’s department remembered him as "a very jovial person, very dedicated to his job, dedicated to serving his community.”
Days after Toney’s death, authorities charged Tafahree Maynard, 18, with being the trigger man, the report states. Officers said they were forced to shoot Maynard after he tried to attack officers with a lawn mower blade.
