A group of local activists recently gathered outside the Gwinnett County Jail to protest the deaths of three men killed while in police custody.

According to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, the three men have been identified as Corey Bryant, Deion Strayhorn and Ian Longshore.

"They are human beings," said Penny Poole, the president of the Gwinnett County NAACP. "They are someone’s son, someone’s brother."

In a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, Longshore’s mother, Kimberly, insisted she and her family have made several phone calls to no avail.

"They have told me absolutely nothing,” Longshore told FOX 5 Atlanta.

While other inmates at the jail told authorities they saw Longshore reaching for the panic button in his cell before falling over, police officials now insist guards found an unknown white powder in Longshore and Bryant’s jail cells during subsequent searches.

According to the report, beyond their three deaths, protesters say they want reform and improvements in conditions for those awaiting trial, who are innocent until proven guilty, while deputies assured them the investigations in question are now in the hands of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
