Two CCSD Leaders Named Region Athletic Directors of the Year!

Two Cherokee County School District leaders have been named Region Athletic Directors of the Year!

Jeremy Adams, the athletic director and an assistant principal for Cherokee High School, was selected as the Region 5-7A Athletic Director of the Year, and David Dyer, the athletic director and an assistant principal for River Ridge High School, was named Region 6-6A Athletic Director of the Year.  The honor recognizes their outstanding service to high school athletics and student athletes.

They now are in the running for the state title in their divisions, 7A for Mr. Adams and 6A for Mr. Dyer, which will be announced at the 2023 Georgia Athletic Directors Association State Conference in March.  Both also will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower at an upcoming meeting.

“Congratulations to Jeremy and David – we’re so proud of their success as school and community leaders,” Dr. Hightower said.  “They have shown exemplary dedication in their dual roles as athletic directors and as assistant principals.  They earned this recognition through hard work and the great care they show their students, teachers, coaches and staff, parents and boosters and their community as a whole.”

During his 12 years of teaching and coaching in CCSD, Mr. Adams earned accolades including Region Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2013 and Atlanta Metro Coach of the Year, recognizing his success coaching the Sequoyah High School basketball team to region championships and state playoffs.  He joined the Cherokee HS administration team in 2016 and was named the 2019 Georgia Region 4-7A Athletic Director of the Year and one of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce’s 2021 Top 10 in 10 Young Professionals to Watch.  In addition to overseeing its athletic program, Mr. Adams’ role at Cherokee HS includes overseeing student clubs and activities, transportation, discipline and the junior class and half the sophomore class.

Mr. Dyer joined CCSD in 2019 as the athletic director and an assistant principal at River Ridge HS.  He brought 26 years of teaching and multi-sport coaching experience, including in baseball, softball and golf, to the post.  His last role prior to joining CCSD was as a teacher and coach at Fannin County High School, and his coaching career has included numerous region and state successes.  In addition to overseeing its athletic program, Mr. Dyer’s role at River Ridge HS encompasses overseeing student services and discipline for a fourth of the student population and student clubs and activities.
