Internationally renowned artist Riccarda de Eccher will exhibit some of her contemporary watercolors in Sellars Gallery at Brenau University beginning this month.
Riccarda de Eccher: Montagna will be on display from Feb. 16 to March 30, with an opening reception and artist talk from 5:30-8 p.m. Feb. 16.The event is free and open to the public.
“Riccarda de Eccher invites the viewer into her adventurous world, revealing a meticulous creative process and insight into her passion for the subject matter she creates – the northern Italian Alps, specifically the Dolomites,” Brenau Galleries Director Gena Brodie Robbins said. “In de Eccher’s artist talk, she will discuss her fascination with these mountains, the impressive summits she has conquered, including her 1980s hike up Mount Everest, and the details about her artwork that has resulted from her lifelong colloquy with the natural world.”
De Eccher was born in Bolzano, Italy in 1954 and grew up in Uldine, Italy. She now divides her time living in both Italy and Long Island, New York. She is a seasoned mountaineer and took inspiration from her many hikes, from flowers and plants to rock formations. Her initial studies evolved into large-scale, realistic watercolors of the mountains she explored.
De Eccher’s work has been featured at the Casa Cavazzini Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Udine, Italy, Galleria d’Arte Moderna Enrico de Cillia in Treppo Carnico, Italy, Gallery ArtCube in Paris, and the Sala delle Esposizioni in Bolzano, Italy, among others. She has also published several books of short stories featuring her paintings and is the subject of the award-winning 2018 documentary film Riccarda de Eccher: Montagna.
