Students are encouraged to explore career interests early, as emphasized by the K-12 Computer Science for All (CS for All) initiative. This program provides students with access to computer science through extracurricular activities, competitions, and courses such as FIRST LEGO League, VEX Robotics, and other CS clubs.

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is dedicated to ensuring that students acquire foundational computer skills essential for their future careers. The district supports these programs by providing high-quality training, materials, and equipment.

“It is important for students to have early exposure to future career opportunities and skill development as early as possible,” says GCPS Director of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Sallie Holloway. “Research shows that students who are not exposed to computer science and STEM by 3rd grade are far less likely to choose those types of courses or careers later in life. It’s important for students to develop a positive STEM identity so that they believe that they are capable and belong in those spaces.”

The Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program at the middle school level complements the CS for All initiative by introducing students to career pathways aligned with their interests. Available from grades 6-12, CTAE offers pathways such as Business Education, Computer Science, Marketing, among others. Some programs also provide an opportunity for students to earn their first high school credit. More information about involvement and learning about new technology can be found on the CS for All and CTAE web pages.
