Intuitive, a leading company in robotic-assisted surgical systems, is expanding its operations in Gwinnett County. Jamila Pope, who leads state governmental affairs at Intuitive from the Peachtree Corners campus, plays a crucial role in this growth. The campus develops and manufactures the da Vinci Surgical System, which has been used in over 14 million procedures worldwide.

Pope's responsibilities include educating stakeholders about the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery. "By sharing information and educating people about our technologies, I’m helping more people understand the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery," she says.

Since establishing a presence in Georgia in 2011 and opening its current campus in 2013, Intuitive has expanded steadily. The Peachtree Corners site now includes corporate offices and a nearly 600,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. A new training center is under construction and expected to open by 2026. This expansion represents a $500 million investment by Intuitive.

The Gwinnett County campus currently employs over 500 people across various roles and expects to exceed 1,200 employees soon. "We want people to think of Intuitive for job opportunities," Pope states.

Intuitive's presence also impacts the local economy as surgical teams visit for training on robotic technology. "We train more surgeon care teams here in Gwinnett than at any other location across the globe," Pope adds.

Since joining Intuitive in April 2023, Pope has focused on advancing policies that support Georgia’s business and health care sectors while engaging with legislators on emerging health care technologies' benefits.

Pope highlights her connection with the Gwinnett Chamber: “When I joined Intuitive, I knew we needed to be part of this group of business leaders.” She emphasizes potential career opportunities for local students inspired by collaborations between companies and educational systems.

“We’re proud to be growing in Gwinnett,” Pope concludes, acknowledging community support for their expansion efforts.
