Megadyne, a global company with a presence in Buford, Georgia, plays a significant role in the manufacturing of power transmission belts and systems used across various industries such as automotive, energy, food, fitness, medical, and agriculture. The company is part of AMMEGA and serves customers worldwide.
Ron Harris leads Megadyne's power transmission department from Gwinnett County. He manages production schedules, customer satisfaction, and business development efforts both nationally and internationally. Harris highlights Gwinnett as an ideal location for global businesses due to its infrastructure and pro-business environment. “So many resources have been put in place within the Gwinnett business community. From strong economic development councils to collaborations with local universities, this area has many elements needed to anchor global businesses,” he says.
Harris began his career at Goodyear Corporation where he learned manufacturing best practices at their flagship plant. His 24 years there provided him with skills to transform businesses. After leaving Goodyear, Harris applied his expertise in different fields including Memphis where he valued relationships built at the local chamber of commerce. “Sitting with business leaders in Memphis, I heard them describe problems that I knew could be overcome with the right process and automation,” he recalls.
Upon joining Megadyne 1.5 years ago, Harris noted the company's membership in the Gwinnett Chamber but saw limited active involvement in programs. “I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to be fully engaged with the Chamber," says Harris. "This is where you make important connections for your business and yourself."
Despite working primarily with power transmission systems, Harris emphasizes the importance of human connections within the Gwinnett Chamber community. “We’re all in the people business," he states. "For me, it’s important to leave a legacy of helping others by sharing what I’ve learned.”
