Six students from Shiloh Middle School achieved top ten placements in their events at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference. Among them, one student will advance to compete at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas, scheduled for June 26-29.
Shiloh Middle School Principal Chris Bess expressed pride in the students' accomplishments. "Our Jr. HOSA Chapter is exceptional for several reasons," Bess stated. "First, we are the district's first and only middle school Jr. HOSA chapter. Second, our students are committed to participating in Jr. HOSA before and after school in the absence of a Healthcare Science Connections course. Finally, the small size of our chapter affords the opportunity for dedicated time to prepare each Jr. HOSA member for the competitive event that works best for them during the before and after school meetings."
HOSA is an international student organization recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of the Association for Career and Technical Education. Its mission is to promote career opportunities in healthcare and enhance quality healthcare delivery to all people through a leadership development program designed exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, middle school, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education or biomedical science programs.
The following Shiloh Middle School students were named state winners:
- Alonie Jones: Foundations of Nutrition
- Grace Irving: Foundations of Veterinary Science
- Justice Granberry: Health Education
- Malu John: Health Education
- Brooke McCray: Health Education
- Erika Williams: Health Education
