Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has been acknowledged on a national level for its dedication to student data privacy. The district received the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Mini Seals for Classroom and Professional Development Practices from the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN).

The CoSN TLE Seal is awarded to school districts that show strong privacy policies and practices in protecting student information. This program is implemented across five core practice areas: Leadership, Business, Data Security, Professional Development, and the Classroom. It ensures high standards in safeguarding student data privacy. The new TLE Mini Seal Program offers districts like GCPS targeted recognition and guidance on privacy practices within specific areas before moving to the full TLE privacy framework.

Dr. Debbie Durrence, GCPS Executive Director of Data Governance, emphasized the importance of security practices around student data as a top priority. “Maintaining the privacy of the data we are entrusted to hold in Gwinnett County Public Schools is a critical activity for every member of the organization,” Dr. Durrence stated. “This recognition demonstrates the district’s commitment to keeping our students’ data safe while maximizing opportunities for each and every student.”

GCPS is a significant participant in Georgia's TLE Seal Program, highlighting the state's dedication to protecting student data. The CoSN TLE Seal remains the only privacy framework specifically designed for school systems. Achieving this seal indicates GCPS' measurable progress in implementing, maintaining, and enhancing organization-wide student data privacy practices with ongoing validation through a reapplication process every two years.
