Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Parent Mentors are inviting families of students who receive special education services to a presentation titled “Navigating the holidays and avoiding caretaker fatigue.” The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12. The session aims to address the stress and anxiety that can accompany the holiday season, which is traditionally seen as a time of joy and celebration.

Dawn Albanese, a Parent Mentor from the GCPS Special Education Department, will lead the session. She will offer tips, ideas, and strategies to help families manage time off from school, social gatherings, and holiday traditions. Additionally, she will discuss self-care as a method for preventing caretaker fatigue.

The presentation will be held in two sessions: an in-person meeting from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center located at 437 Old Peachtree Road NW, Suwanee, GA 30024 in Building 200, Central Gwinnett Room 2.111; and an online Zoom session from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

To attend either session, participants must register using provided links. After registration for the Zoom session, attendees will receive a confirmation email with details on how to join the meeting.

For questions regarding the event or interpretation services requests—which should be made at least one week prior—interested parties can contact Dawn Albanese via email at dawn.albanese@gcpsk12.org or by phone at 678-301-7212. Spanish interpretation has already been arranged.
