The Georgia School Climate Survey, a tool designed to identify issues related to school safety and climate affecting student achievement, is set to be conducted statewide. Revised in 2024, the survey aligns with Georgia's Systems of Continuous Improvement and aims to offer useful data for district and school leaders.

The Georgia Department of Education will gather information during the school day from elementary students in grades 3 through 5, as well as middle and high school students in grades 6 through 12.

For elementary students, the survey consists of 27 questions about school climate and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The data collected is both anonymous and self-reported. Parents can review these questions online.

Middle and high school students will answer questions over a span of about 20 minutes on topics including school climate, safety, alcohol and drug use, and mental health. As with the younger students, their responses are anonymous and self-reported. These survey questions are also available for parental review online.

Parents wishing to exclude their children from participating must opt-out via ParentVUE or notify their child's school in writing by December 2, 2024.

Additionally, parents have the opportunity to participate in the survey themselves. They will receive a link through ParentSquare on December 5, 2024.
