Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of North Metro Academy of Performing Arts. The event took place on November 1 in the school cafeteria, attended by students, staff, families, and notable guests. Among the attendees were GCPS Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts, Gwinnett County Board of Education member Dr. Mary Kay Murphy from District III, Dr. Beauty P. Baldwin, and GCPS Cluster Superintendent Dr. Reuben Gresham.
The celebration featured performances by students and speeches from guest speakers and student leaders. North Metro Academy was founded as a charter school by Dr. Baldwin to serve the Norcross community with an educational focus on the arts.
Principal Monique Lee emphasized the school's unique approach: “North Metro Academy of Performing Arts engages students in instruction that integrates academics and the performing arts in ways that address the unique needs and interests of each student while intentionally developing confidence, imagination, and collaboration.” She added that these principles are designed to foster students' individual interests, instill a sense of responsibility, and lay a foundation for their future success as graduates and citizens.
