During the 2024-25 school year, Sycamore Elementary School reported enrolling 309 Hispanic students, reflecting a 5.8% decrease compared to the prior year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education.
The data also show the school’s total enrollment reached 736 students in 2024-25. Hispanic students comprised 42% of the overall student body, marking them as the school’s largest demographic group.
Sycamore Elementary School is part of the Gwinnett County School District, which has its central office in Lawrenceville.
Across the 140 schools in Gwinnett County School District, Berkmar High School recorded the district’s highest number of Hispanic students for 2024-25, with 2,072 enrolled.
More than 1.7 million students were listed as enrolled in Georgia public schools, according to the Fiscal Year 2026-1 report from the Georgia Department of Education. Elementary grades had the largest share with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 in middle schools (22.7%), and 539,092 in high schools (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant challenge in Georgia after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of school days in 2024, according to the state Department of Education. The state agency has launched new statewide initiatives including a real-time attendance dashboard, expanded public awareness efforts, and targeted interventions for districts with high absenteeism to improve daily attendance.
In 2025, Georgia legislators approved an update to school attendance laws that prohibits expulsion solely for absenteeism. The legislation also introduces new reporting standards and aligns with alternative diploma programs aimed at helping students graduate through different pathways.
By 2026, Georgia maintained an average student-to-teacher ratio of nearly 14:1, surpassing the national average of 15:1.
