Democratic incumbent Sally Harrell has won her re-election bid for Senate District 40, defeating Republican opponent Garry Guan.

Harrell expressed gratitude on her Facebook page on Nov. 4.

“I have good news to share as we continue to wait for election results. It’s safe to say we have won Senate 40! As of 1pm today (Wednesday), I am up by nearly 17,000 votes, with over 60% of the vote.

So far, I have won 71% percent of the dropbox/mail-in ballots and 59% of the in-person early vote.

“I’m so glad Senate 40 residents had a safe way to make their voices heard. You have spoken, and I look forward to my second term in Georgia’s Senate, providing the leadership Georgia needs.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the votes, volunteer hours and financial support so many of you provided to make this success possible.”
