Soler 'wasn't thinking about anything like that' when he hit historic first plate appearance homer in World Series

During Game 1 of the World Series, Atlanta Braves star outfielder Jorge Soler announced his return from the injury list by becoming the first player to score a homer in his very first plate appearance of a Fall Classic.

According to MLB.com, Soler was making his first appearance in the lineup since returning from COVID-19 injured list.

"To be honest, I didn't know that was a thing until I was told a little later on in the game," Soler told MLB.com. "For me, I wasn't thinking about anything like that."

Soler came to Braves following a midseason trade, and has hit .573 in 37 games since his addition to the team.

Braves manager Brian Snitker said that it was hard to chose between Soler and Eddie Rosario to put in the leadoff spot, but chose Soler to face off against Astros left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez.

"I weighed both things all night and then, just looking at how actually we could balance the lineup (he went with Soler in the top spot)," Snitker told MLB.com. "Because this is the postseason, you never know what they're going to do. Guys do stuff different than they have. And I find myself doing that. So just to try and structure the lineup for the game, for this one game. That's pretty much what it is."
