Nabilah Islam Parkes Democrat 7 | Georgia General Assembly
ATLANTA (Apr. 24, 2024) — Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes (D–Lawrenceville), the youngest female state Senator in Georgia, celebrated a significant milestone as her first bill, SB 144, was signed into law this week.
Expressing her gratitude and determination, Sen. Islam Parkes remarked, “I am honored that this is my first measure to be signed into law. My experience on the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military and Homeland Security helped me shape this legislation, which will reduce administrative burdens, save taxpayer dollars and protect commissioned officers. I look forward to continuing my work for the 7th District by championing future legislation to serve Georgians across our state.”
The bill, which was signed by Gov. Brian P. Kemp, eliminates certain reporting requirements for the state’s adjutant general regarding the organized militia. It also streamlines the distribution of laws and regulations to militia forces. This achievement marks the first bill to pass through both legislative chambers under Sen. Islam Parkes’ leadership.
Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes represents the 7th Senate District, encompassing part of Gwinnett County. She can be contacted at 404.463.5263 or NabilahIslamParkes@senate.ga.gov.
