Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) recognized its top school counselors as part of National School Counseling Week, which takes place from February 5-9 this year. The awards were presented during the 2024 GCPS Counselor of the Year program.
Mi’esha Reynolds, from Meadowcreek Elementary School, was named the 2024 Gwinnett County Elementary School Counselor of the Year. Principal Adrienne Tedesco praised Reynolds for being "an advocate for students and a positive force in our school." Reynolds has focused on reducing unexcused absences and promoting career readiness through initiatives like Career Day.
Dr. Nadege Azor of Couch Middle School received the award for 2024 Gwinnett County Middle School Counselor of the Year. Her principal, Cappy Douglass, described her as "a change agent in the most remarkable and beautiful ways." Dr. Azor's work includes programs like RENEW mentoring to support at-risk students.
Corban Cofer from North Gwinnett High School was honored as the 2024 Gwinnett County Secondary School Counselor of the Year. Principal Nathan Ballantine commended Cofer's ability to remain calm and focused while supporting students' academic success and well-being.
The Mary Joe Hannaford Counselor Administrator of the Year award went to Dr. Kassia Sutton of Norcross Elementary School. Known as a "dream principal," Dr. Sutton actively supports her school's counseling program by collaborating with counselors and implementing innovative initiatives.
Additionally, Archer High School, Gwin Oaks Elementary School, and Mason Elementary School were recognized as 2024 RAMP recipients for their comprehensive counseling programs.
