On October 29, students in grades 8, 10, and 11 from Gwinnett participated in the PSAT at no cost. The PSAT is part of the SAT family of assessments.
The PSAT 8/9 serves as the initial assessment for students. It provides a baseline for understanding college and career readiness, highlights student strengths, identifies skills needing practice, and offers information about Advanced Placement (AP) courses that may be beneficial during high school. For more details on PSAT 8/9 scoring and to view an explanatory video, please visit this link.
For students in grades 10 and 11, the PSAT National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test or PSAT/NMSQT is administered. This test offers practice for the SAT, tracks progress over time, and gives insights into AP courses suitable for high school. As juniors, their PSAT score determines eligibility for participation in the National Merit Scholar Program and other scholarships. Further explanation of PSAT/NMSQT scoring along with a video can be accessed via this link.
Families should note that through the SAT for All program, all district’s 11th-grade students have the opportunity to take the SAT during a regular school day without incurring any fees. GCPS's 11th graders are scheduled to take the SAT on March 18, 2025.
