October was a significant month for the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Transportation team. It included the national recognition of School Bus Safety Week and the celebration of Bus Driver Appreciation Day. The annual School Bus Rodeo event also took place at the Suwanee Safety and Training Center.

The Bus Rodeo is a friendly competition where bus drivers tackle progressively challenging obstacles, judged by licensed commercial driving professionals. Participants can compete during their morning and afternoon routes, showcasing their skills. The top performers receive a trophy and an opportunity to represent GCPS at the state-level competition, aiming for the title of Georgia's best school bus driver.

While competitive, the event emphasizes safe driving practices and adherence to driving laws, reinforcing GCPS' commitment to student safety in transportation.

In this year's competition, Lisa Dekranes and Dennis Walker from Zone 07C won first place in the Special Needs category, with Dennis Bramlett and Estelle Mayfield from Zone 077 coming in second. In Regular Education, Gregory Harriott from Zone 06P secured first place, while Alex Molinet from Zone 066 earned second place.
