Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Parent Mentors are organizing a presentation titled “Understanding Post-Secondary Outcomes and How it Connects to the Transition Plan in the IEP.” The event is open to families of students across all school levels. The focus will be on planning for future transitions into adulthood, which requires years of preparation.
The session aims to show how post-secondary adult outcomes are reflected in a student's individual transition plan within their IEP. It will also cover post-secondary opportunities available for adults with disabilities in education, training, employment, and independent living. Participants will receive resources to help plan and prepare their children for adulthood transitions.
The presentation will be led by Tamra King, GCPS Special Education Department Coordinator, and Lisa Divers, GCPS Special Education Department Instructional Coach.
Two sessions are scheduled: an in-person session on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center in Suwanee, Georgia; and an online session via Zoom from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
