Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has issued a response following a tragic school shooting in Barrow County. The incident, although not involving GCPS directly, has prompted the district to reinforce its commitment to student and staff safety.
Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts emphasized the priority of maintaining a secure learning environment: "The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority." In collaboration with local law enforcement, School Resource Officers have increased their presence around schools to ensure security.
The district highlighted its comprehensive safety plan which includes regular lockdown drills and enhanced security measures. GCPS is also urging community involvement by encouraging families to discuss the importance of reporting any suspicious activities or threats.
