Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is highlighting National Teen Driver Safety Week, which runs from October 15 to October 21. The event aims to promote safe driving habits among teenagers who are new drivers.

The school district emphasizes the importance of understanding various aspects of distracted driving, which extends beyond just texting and talking on a cell phone. GCPS encourages parents and teens to review Georgia's Hands-Free Law, with further details available at www.gahighwaysafety.org/hands-free-law/.

Statistics indicate that more than half of drowsy driving crashes involve drivers aged 25 and younger, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). Additionally, nearly two-thirds of crash deaths involving 16-year-old drivers occur when there is one or more teen passengers in the vehicle.

For those seeking more information about safe driving practices or interested in the Driver's Education program, GCPS advises contacting the Community School Coordinator for their respective cluster.
