Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students have once again outperformed their peers on the ACT, achieving higher scores than both state and national averages. The Class of 2023, who took the ACT during their 10th to 12th-grade years, recorded a mean composite score of 22.2. This figure surpasses Georgia's average score of 21.3 and the national average of 19.5.

The ACT evaluates high school students' general educational development and readiness for college-level work across four areas: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. An optional writing test is also available to assess essay-writing skills.

In terms of subject-specific scores, GCPS students scored an average of 21.2 in English compared to the state’s 20.7 and the national average of 18.6. In Mathematics, they achieved an average score of 22.0 against Georgia's 20.6 and the national figure of 19.0. For Reading, GCPS students averaged a score of 23.0, exceeding Georgia’s average of 22.2 and the national average of 20.1. In Science, GCPS students had an average score of 22.2 compared to Georgia’s 21.2 and the nation’s average score of 19.6.

Regarding benchmarks met in each category, GCPS showed strong performance with higher percentages than both state and national figures across all subjects.

The ACT is widely used by colleges and universities to gauge how well students might perform at the post-secondary level, with students often encouraged to take both the ACT and SAT for comprehensive assessment data.
