Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has opened the Care Pantry, a facility that offers free breakfast, lunch and dinner to its students in order to mitigate food insecurity, according to a Fox 5 report.

In a press release, GGC said it will collaborate with the Lawrenceville Co-Op Food Bank Ministry and other community and campus partners to provide students with prepackaged meals.

"A healthy balanced diet is critical, so we wanted to make sure that we were aligned with those types of guidelines so that we're looking out for their whole wellbeing," Katherine Kyle, vice president of human resources and chief of staff for Georgia Gwinnett College, told Fox 5.

All students with a valid GGC Claw Card will have access to the pantry, where they can also make requests for meals that suit their dietary and cultural needs.

GGC is able to buy specific perishable goods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins and dairy through the Student Emergency Fund.

A survey conducted at GGC in Fall 2020 by the Institutional Research and Analysis Office revealed that 19% of students knew someone who did not have enough to eat, while 43% of students struggled to fulfill a need, according to the college's release.
