Gwinnett County Schools recently reported more than 1,000 students and staff workers tested positive for COVID-19, according to a WSB-TV report.
As of Aug. 27, the district's schools and district office reported 1,008 active cases.
"Keep in mind that in GA we have more than our fair share of ignorant parents that refused to get their kids tested or keep them home from school if exposed to COVID. Not a joke,’’ Meidas Hope for Democracy said on Twitter, "That means the actual number of cases is much higher than stated in this article."
Mill Creek High School has 40 confirmed cases of the virus while South Gwinnett High School has 34 confirmed cases and Archer High School has 28 confirmed cases; several more schools have reportedly confirmed double-digit case counts among students and staff, according to WSB-TV.
Since the start of the school year, Gwinnett County, which includes the state's biggest school system, has recorded 2,310 coronavirus cases.
The average daily COVID-19 case count among Georgia children over a seven-day period is 1,944, with at least 1,188 cases reported among children ages 10 to 17 and almost 500 cases reported among children ages 5 to 9, according to WSB-TV.
