In light of the increase in COVID-19 cases, Gwinnett schools are offering $500 as a vaccination incentive to eligible staff members.
Gwinnett County Public Schools said the new incentive program is applicable to newly vaccinated staff and those who were vaccinated earlier in the year, according to WSB-TV.
"As we are in the third school year impacted by the pandemic, now, more than ever, it is important for our children to be in school and learning in person," Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts said in a statement to FOX 5.
Gwinnett is the state's largest school district with approximately 179,943 students, FOX 5 reported.
The incentive will be available to all full-time employees, contracted speech-language pathologists and contracted cafeteria staff, according to FOX 5.
Several retirees who work part-time at the school are eligible for the incentive, but will receive 49% of the amount, reflecting their work hours, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Gwinnett County school officials have partnered with the health department to conduct weekly vaccination clinics, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. These clinics will be held through September and October at high schools across the county.
