Former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue has been installed as chancellor of the University System of Georgia, becoming the 14th person to hold the position.
According to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Harold Reynolds, the chair of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, oversaw the investiture ceremony.
"I stand before you today to accept this charge to lead the system but also to be the institutions' biggest cheerleader, our students' biggest advocate, and our families’ and communities' biggest supporter," Perdue said to the crowd gathered inside the Georgia House chamber, FOX 5 reports.
The board of regents originally selected Perdue as its top choice for the office in 2021, but paused that April after a grassroots group of Georgia college students protested his installation, FOX 5 reports.
Kemp, who is 75 years old and a native of nearby Perry, Georgia, graduated from Warner Robins High School and earned a veterinarian degree from the University of Georgia, the report states.
