Meadowcreek High School's RoboMustangs robotics team has secured a victory at the Albany qualifier for the Peachtree District Championship Event in the FIRST® National Robotics Competition. This marks their first win in seven years, following a period of inactivity lasting five years. The school community is celebrating this achievement as an impressive comeback for the team.
The 12-member team invested nearly 100 hours in planning, building, and strategizing to develop their competition robot over the past year. In these competitions, teams form alliances and face off against others in challenging field games. Despite being the last team chosen for an alliance, the RoboMustangs triumphed.
Robert White, a teacher at Meadowcreek High and co-sponsor of the RoboMustangs, expressed his enjoyment in mentoring students. "Our role is to ensure the team has what they need to succeed, whether that’s robot parts, mentors, or lunch," White said. "It has been a pleasure to watch them grow into independent, capable engineers."
Led by students from grades 9 through 12, the team emphasized core values such as creativity, cooperation, respect, and service throughout their participation. These principles are integral to the FIRST Robotics program's mission of preparing students for future careers through hands-on learning aligned with Georgia’s academic standards.
Sara Konecny, another teacher at Meadowcreek High and co-sponsor of the club, highlighted how competing helps students recognize their potential. "It is important to show students that they can build robots, engineer the future, and achieve whatever they set their minds to," Konecny stated.
