Two students from Discovery High School have been selected to represent Georgia at the 2024 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship in Orlando, Florida. The competition is scheduled for June.

Simon Mesfun, a graduating senior, and Sophia Ho, an 11th-grade student, secured their places in the national championship by achieving perfect scores and recording the fastest times at the Georgia Microsoft Office Specialist Spring Qualifier. This event tests participants' proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint through timed exams. These exams evaluate competitors' abilities to perform tasks like document formatting, spreadsheet creation with complex formulas, and dynamic presentation design.

"These students are amazing. Not only do they both have six industry certifications, but they are also representing the entire state of Georgia for Microsoft Word and PowerPoint," said Sherri Stephenson, Discovery High School Business & Technology Pathway Lead. "This is a great opportunity for them; they are competing against other universities and could win a college scholarship."

At the national level, Simon and Sophia will face off against other top-performing students from across the United States. They will compete for scholarships, prizes, trophies, certificates, the title of U.S. National Champion, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Anaheim, California for the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in July.
