Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has recognized four students as REACH scholars during the annual REACH Signing Day event. The honorees, Yaima Cardenas-Vazquez from Jordan Middle School, Sheyla Calderon Roblero from Moore Middle School, Jacob Cortez from Lilburn Middle School, and Ragib Talukder from Radloff Middle School, are celebrated for their academic achievements and participation in the REACH Georgia Program. Each student is awarded a scholarship of up to $10,000 for their postsecondary education.
Dr. Tinisha Parker, GCPS Executive Director of Student Services, stated: “The world needs people who not only strive for excellence but also lift others up along the way. As REACH Scholars, these students have already shown that they have what it takes to make a positive difference—not just with their minds but with their hearts. We cannot wait to see the amazing futures they will build.”
REACH Georgia aims to provide "greater college access" for low-income students across the state by preparing them for future careers. The program partners with GCPS’ Community-Based Mentoring Program to pair scholars with mentors who guide them through high school.
Dr. Demetria Williams, GCPS Director of Counseling, College and Career Services remarked: “We are extremely proud of our four REACH Scholars and we applaud their commitment to pursuing higher achievement. It is clear that each student has the potential for postsecondary and career success, and their scholarships are an investment towards their ultimate goals.”
