Gwinnett County appoints new principals for three schools

The Gwinnett County Board of Education has announced the appointment of new principals at three schools following its meeting on November 21, 2024. Dr. Emily W. Nelson will take over as principal at Harmony Elementary School, replacing Jonathan Day, who is retiring. Dr. Nelson has been serving as assistant principal at the same school.

At McClure Health Science High School, Dr. Gypsy Hernandez will step into the role of principal, succeeding Nicole Mosley upon her retirement. Dr. Hernandez comes from Coleman Middle School where she was the principal.

Dr. Quincy L. Wallace is set to become the new principal at Twin Rivers Middle School, taking over from Betsy Kelly who is also retiring. Dr. Wallace previously served as Assistant Principal at Lanier High School.

Dr. Emily W. Nelson's career in education began in 2004 and includes roles such as a first-grade teacher and literacy coach before becoming an assistant principal in 2013 at Harmony Elementary School.

Dr. Gypsy Hernandez's background features various positions within Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) and other institutions since 2005, including being a biology teacher and holding multiple administrative roles.

Dr. Quincy L. Wallace brings experience from different educational environments since 2009, with roles ranging from teaching to administrative leadership positions.

Each newly appointed principal has participated in the Quality-Plus Leader Academy’s Aspiring Principal Program or Aspiring Leader Program during their careers.
