The Hidden Hero Award, which honors bus drivers for their outstanding dedication, was presented to Jamario Felder on December 17, 2024. The ceremony was organized by the Rotary Club of Gwinnett in collaboration with various stakeholders including the Meadowcreek Zone bus drivers, Radloff Middle School Principal Jennifer Callahan and staff, former Board Member Louise Radloff, representatives from the GCPS Transportation Department, and leaders from the City of Lawrenceville.
Before the event, transportation zones submitted nominations for the award. Felder was chosen as this year's recipient and was honored with a commemorative plaque and a $500 cash prize provided by the Rotary Club of Gwinnett.
Felder has been a bus driver at Radloff Middle School for four years. Earlier this year, his prompt response saved a student's life when they became unconscious on his bus. Felder contacted GCPS dispatch for help and was connected to Gwinnett County's 911 line. Utilizing his emergency training, he administered CPR until emergency personnel arrived. He also ensured other students were safely evacuated from the bus. His actions were crucial in providing timely medical care to the student.
At the award ceremony, Felder expressed gratitude for being recognized as a hidden hero whose actions embody selfless service and community commitment. GCPS thanked all who attended and acknowledged media efforts in highlighting Felder's story.
